Whenever a friend or family member announces a pregnancy I feel double the joy, I am happy for them and the lovely new addition to their family and I am happy for myself and the fact that I will get to make a whole bunch of new knitted baby items for that baby! If you are an avid knitter this scenario might sound familiar to you too!
I usually like to work with real animal fibers but sometimes I like the affordability and versatility of acrylic. I like the fact that it is machine washable, the ease of care is really important when making baby items – due to nappy leaks, vomiting, spills etc – you can just chuck it in the washing machine and it’s easily taken care of. Acrylics are Non-allergenic, so no allergy worries and not to mention that a knitted item will last you forever!
Here is a quick review of some of the best baby yarns that I have used that are within a smaller budget.
Lion Brand Yarn 550-158 Pound of Love Yarn:
- Weight Category: 4 Worsted Weight: Afghan, Aran Yarn; 16 oz (454 g), 1,020 yd (932 m); One skein only
100% acrylic and it comes in a wide variety of lovely pastel colors. This yarn is easy to work with, it is soft and cuddly and washes well. One skein goes a long way, you can even get a very small baby blanket out of it! I really love the antique white color, lilac, the pink and Creamsicle. Try it for yourself, however it is not a luxury yarn so please be mindful of that, it definitely does fall under the budget friendly category.
Comes in a wide variety of stunning shades, have a very soft texture, lovely sheen to it and drapes nicely. No knots or thin spots, just smooth knitting all the way.
Simply Soft Yarn H97003 6-Ounce/315-Yard Skein of Yarn
Knits up really well, is soft and maintains shape on the knitted item even after years of washing! Pretty good quality for the price.
