St. John’s Wort is a gorgeous traditional lace knitting stitch that is easy and fun to knit up, perfect for shawls and other lacy items!

Abbreviations:

k = knit
p = purl
sl = slip a stitch without working it from the left needle to the right one
psso = pass the slipped stitch over
yo = yarn over

Multiples of 6 plus 2

Row 1: k1 * ( Sl 1, k2, psso), k3, * k1

Row 2: p1 * p4, yo, p1, * p1

Row 3: k1 * k3, ( Sl 1, k2, psso), * k1

Row 4: p1 * p1, yo, p4, * p1

4 rows make up pattern.

Note: The yo occurs on the even rows falling between the k2 stitches over which the slipped stitch has been passed in the row previous.
