Picot Swirl Cloth created by Foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains.
This cloth is a round washcloth/dishcloth built from knitted wedge‑shapes that swirl around to form a circular, star‑burst–style piece. As you knit, increases and shaping yield a gentle spiral effect, while a picot‑edged border gives the finished cloth a softly scalloped, organic outline.
Worked in cotton or similar worsted‑weight yarn, it’s both sturdy and absorbent — practical enough for everyday use in the kitchen or bathroom, yet pretty and handmade enough to double as a decorative piece. The construction is modestly challenging (requires some shaping and attention to increasing), but the result is a striking, textural cloth that blends function with handcrafted charm.
