Beautiful gables – lace pattern stitch!

Abbreviations:
K = Knit
yo = yarn over
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
ssk = slip, slip, knit slipped stitches tog. A decrease
CCD = Centered double decrease – Slip next 2 sts as if to k2tog, k1, p2sso
p2sso = pass 2 slipped sts over

 

Cast on multiples of 10 sts + 1

Row 1 (RS): k1, * yo, ssk, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to end

Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl

Row 3: as row 1

Row 5: k1, * yo, ssk, k5, k2tog, yo, k1; rep from * to end

Row 7: k1, * k1, yo, ssk, k3, k2tog, yo, k2; rep from * to end

Row 9: k1, * k2, yo, ssk, k1, k2tog, yo, k3; rep from * to end

Row 11: k1, * k3, yo, CDD, yo, k4; rep from * to end

Row 12: Purl

Rows 1  to 12 make up pattern

    If I use this pattern to make a scarf, do I need to add some type of edging to keep it from rolling under on the sides? If so, will you let me know what stitches to add to the pattern for an edging? Thanks!
