Knitted Baby Bow Hat

Knitted Baby Bow Hat created by Twenty Something Granny!

The Baby Bow Hat is a simple, adorable knit baby hat (roughly newborn to 0-3 months) that’s easy enough for a beginner. You start by casting on 44 stitches in worsted-weight yarn and working a short K1/P1 brim, followed by a few rows in stockinette stitch. Then you add a contrasting-color band for a little pop, switch back to the main color and continue until the piece measures about 5 inches from the start. You shape the crown with a series of decreasing rows (knit-2-tog, knit-1-tog, etc.), finish by pulling the yarn through to close the top, and weave in the ends.

To complete the look, you knit a small bow separately (casting on 16 stitches and working in garter stitch for about an inch), then sew the finished bow onto the colored stripe of the hat. The pattern is easy to modify — you can increase the stitch count in multiples of four for a larger size, adjust needle size to change stretchiness, or swap colors for stripes or fun themes.
