Materials

Three colors of Caron Wintuk worsted weight yarn

Crochet hook size G for 6” square (or size needed for gauge)

Crochet hook size H for 7” square (or size needed for gauge)

Gauge

For 6” square: Rounds 1-3= 3 1/2” at widest point

For 7” square: Rounds 1-3= 3 3/4” at widest point

With color A, ch 5; join with a sl st to the first ch to form ring

Round 1: Ch 3 to count as the first dc, work 15 more dc in the ring; join

with a sl st to the top of the beginning ch 3. (16 dc) Fasten off color A.

Round 2: Attach color B with a sc in any dc, (3 dc shell in the next dc, sc in

the next dc) 7 times, 3 dc shell in the next dc; join with a sl st to the first sc.

(8 shells) Fasten off color B.

Round 3: Attach color C with a sc to the center dc of any shell, *(dc, ch 3

dc) in the next sc, sc in the center dc of the next shell* Repeat from * to * 6

times, (dc, ch 3 dc) in the next sc; join with a sl st to the first sc. Fasten off

color C.

Round 4: Attach color A with a sc in any ch 3 sp, 5 dc shell in the next sc,

(sc in the next ch 3 sp, 5 dc shell in the next sc) 7 times; join with a sl st to

the first sc.

Round 5: Attach color B with a sl st to any sc, ch 3 to count as the first dc,

work 3 more dc in the same st, (sc in the center dc of the next shell, 7 dc

shell in the next sc) 7 times, sc in the center dc of the next shell, 3 dc in the

same st as first dc; join with a sl st to the back loop only of the top of the

beginning ch 3. (8 shells)

Round 6: Ch 5 to count as the first dtrc, work 2 more dtrc in the back loop

of the same st, *trc in the back loop of each of the next 4 sts, dc in the back

loop of each of the next 2 sts, sc in the back loop of each of the next 3 sts,

dc in the back loop of each of the next 2 sts, trc in the back loop of each of

the next 4 sts, 5 dtrc in the back loop of the next st* Repeat from * to * 2

times; trc in the back loop of each of the next 4 sts, dc in the back loop of

each of the next 2 sts, sc in the back loop of each of the next 3 sts, dc in the

back loop of each of the next 2 sts, trc in the back loop of each of the next 4

sts, 2 dtrc in the same st as first dtrc; join with a sl st to the top of the

beginning ch 5, ch 1, turn.

Round 7: Sc in the same st as joining, (trc in the next st, sc in the next st) 9

times, trc in the next st, *(sc, trc, sc) in the next st for corner, (trc in the

next st, sc in the next st) 9 times, trc in the next st* Repeat from * to * 2

times, (sc, trc) in the same st as the first sc; join with a sl st to the first sc.

Fasten off color B.

Round 8: With color A, sc in ea st around, working 3 sc in the trc of each

corner. Fasten off color A. (This is the last round for the 6” square.)

Round 9 (for 7” square): With color C, sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in

the center sc of each corner. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Finishing (shown on 6” square): Attach color C with a slip st to any

unworked front loop on round 6; sl st in each unworked front loop around;

join with a sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off.

Finishing variation (shown on 7” square): Attach color C with a slip st to any

unworked front loop on round 6, ch 1; (sl st, ch 1) in each unworked front

loop around; join with a sl st to the first sl st. Fasten off.
