About Percy the Panda

Percy’s body and head are knitted as one continuous shaped piece, with colour changes creating his distinctive black shoulders and white body.

The arms and legs are worked separately, while a shaped white snout, black nose, stuffed ears and knitted eye patches build up the panda’s face.

One particularly nice detail is the eyes. Rather than using plastic safety eyes, the eyes themselves are knitted, then sewn onto the black eye patches. A tiny white stitch is added to each eye to create a glint.

Knitting Bee Pattern Notes

Best for: A soft traditional toy or handmade panda gift.

Difficulty: Easy. The designer uses straightforward stocking stitch and basic shaping, although there is some colour changing and quite a bit of assembly.

Construction: Worked flat on straight needles, so you don’t need to knit the panda in the round.

What makes it special: The face is built entirely from knitted and embroidered components, including separate eye patches, eyes, snout and nose.

Knitting tip: Keep your tension reasonably firm when making stuffed toys so the filling doesn’t show between the stitches.
