This big friendly knitted mushroom pattern was created by Kimberly Chapman. This pattern knits a whimsical mushroom toy with a rounded cap and a sturdy stem. The cap is shaped somewhat like a yarn‑ball variation — worked in segments, then stuffed and cinched from underneath to flatten the bottom and give the cap its characteristic mushroom‑cap curve.
The stem is knit separately, tapering gradually as it rises and narrowing at the base, then stuffed before being attached under the cap.
Optionally, you can add a ruffled “skirt” around the edge of the cap for extra detail — a bit of a challenge because it expands quickly, but it gives the toy a playful, exaggerated mushroom‑look.

Finally, you can embroider a cute face (or other whimsical details) on the mushroom to make it more characterful. The end result is a soft, rounded mushroom toy — handmade, charming, and perfect as a little decor piece or a playful gift.
