Danube Socks

I’m not going to say that these socks are easy. But they were a lot easier than I expected. If you’ve done cables and you’ve made a sock before, you can do these socks! The center cable is complex, but the side cables pretty much take care of themselves.

by Cailyn Meyer from The Daily Skein.

This pattern produces a pair of mid‑calf socks with a striking and detailed cable/twisted‑stitch design — combining a bold central cable with more subtle side cables for a balanced look.

Worked top‑down, the socks begin with a decorative cuff (the designer calls it “pretty but ineffectual ribbing”), then the leg carries the cable pattern before dividing for the heel. The heel‑flap and gusset construction leads into the foot, with the pattern continuing along the instep while the sole remains plain for comfort.

The result is a beautifully textured, slightly traditional sock — sturdy enough for everyday wear but special enough for gift knitting or a cozy hand‑knit wardrobe staple.
