Materials

  • 4 oz rayon or 3-ply yarn
  • Set of #2 double-pointed needles
  • Crochet hook #3
  • Gauge: 9 sts per inch; 16 rows per inch

Stitch Pattern

Rows 1–5: Knit
Row 6: K4, *yo, K2tog; repeat from * around
Repeat Rows 1–6 throughout.


LEFT GLOVE

Cast On

Cast on 60 sts and arrange as 30 / 15 / 15 across three needles.
Work in the stitch pattern above.

Work until glove measures 5 inches, ending on Row 3 of the knit rows.


Wrist Rib

Work K2, P2 ribbing for ½ inch.
Knit 2 rounds.


Shaping the Hand

Starting on first needle:

Round:
K24, *yo, K2tog, K5; repeat from * around.

From here:

  • Keep 24 palm sts in stockinette.
  • Work back of hand, back of fingers, and thumb in the main stitch pattern.

Work 1 round even.


Thumb Gusset

K26, place marker, inc 1 in each of next 2 sts, knit around.

Work 3 rounds even.

Increase again above the previous increases every 4th round until there are 18 sts for the thumb.

Note:
Whenever the 5-st panel widens due to increases, work a yo within it to keep the pattern even.

Slip all thumb sts to a holder.
Cast on 4 sts over the gap.
Continue with palm in stockinette and back in pattern for 2 inches.


FINGERS

Setup

Starting at first st on first needle:

  • K7
  • Slip next stitches onto holders: 7, 8, 8
  • On second needle: 8, 8
  • On third needle: 8
  • Knit last 7 sts

Little Finger

Knit across first needle, cast on 4 sts.
Work in the round following the stitch pattern for 2 inches.

Then discontinue pattern:

  1. (K2tog, K1) around
  2. Knit 1 round
  3. (K2tog, K1) around
  4. Knit 1 round

Break yarn and fasten off.


Third Finger

Pick up next 8 sts,
Cast on 4,
Pick up 8 from palm,
Pick up 4 from base of Little Finger.

Work back of finger in pattern for 2½ inches.
Finish decreases same as Little Finger.


Second Finger

Pick up 8 sts,
Cast on 4,
Pick up 8 from palm,
Pick up 4 from base of Third Finger.

Work 3 inches, then finish like Third Finger.


First Finger

Pick up remaining sts.
Pick up 4 sts at inside base of Second Finger.

Work in pattern for 2¾ inches.
Finish decreases as for Third Finger.


THUMB

Pick up thumb sts from holder.
Pick up 5 sts from the cast-on edge.
Work in pattern.

When thumb measures 2 inches, decrease as for the fingers.
Fasten off.


CROCHET TOP EDGING

Round 1

Join yarn at the top edge (original cast-on).
Ch5, 1 dc in first st; ch3, dc in 5th st below, ch2, dc in same st.
Repeat around. Join with sl st.

Round 2

Ch5, dc under ch-2 space, ch2, dc in same place, ch3, dc in next ch-2 space; ch2—repeat around.

Repeat Round 2 eight more times.

Final Round

Ch5,
dc under ch-2 space, ch3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook (picot), ch1, dc under same ch-3 space, ch2—repeat around.
Fasten off.


RIGHT GLOVE

Work the glove the same as for the Left Glove except:

  • Distribute stitches as 30 / 15 / 15.
  • Begin thumb increases on first needle:
    • K3, increase in next 2 sts, then K24 for palm.
  • Continue following the same instructions for hand, fingers, and thumb.
